Am I doing enough to hatch this (goose)egg?
Today out at the barn I board at there was a nest of goose eggs. The mother had been there recently and the eggs were still warm but when I returned from a short ride she was gone and I found some feathers around and I know the barn dog had been eying her.In case she wasn't dead,I did leave one egg but I thought it might be fun to try and raise one. (I'm an animal collector).I don't want to hear how wrong or illegal this is,it was on private property.I just want to know if I am doing enough.
I had a red heat lamp for my snake and when I was bringing the egg home (held against my chest and a horse blanket for warmth) I put it in a shoe box,with 3 xtra large t-shirts on the side and underneath for padding. Now the egg is under the heat lamp. I know a a few weeks ago the goose had 4 eggs but they all got trampled and this week she had 2 so I don't know when they were laid.
Anyhow other than the heat lamp and the padding what can i do to get it to hatch (humidity, rotating,ect.?)
You are but you should look it up on the enter net.Believe me I am going through the same thing kind of.I found a baby bird and am trying to raise it .I do not care if it is illegal I and trying to have my own care.So yeah I am looking up everything I can and so should you.
