Popular Viennese music in the 18th century?
Haydn was known to have played in a street band in his younger years in Vienna. What kind of instruments would this band have included? Or, if you at least have an idea where I might be able to find this information, that would be helpful as well. I have searched several places online, as well as my textbooks at home. Thanks for any help!
That's a hard one. Hmmmmm
My guess would be easily held instruments such as the violin, and maybe a trumpet, clarinet, flute, horn. Think of what a classical orchestra entails and go from there. It's possible that they could have set up small groups around a pianoforte in the street. Then they could have had a piano quintet or something. Possibly a brass quintet. Not sure.
