The Sounds We Have Seen as Demonstrated by Dame Evelyn Glennie
by TD Euwaite
A Scotswoman, slightly thin,
With a grin contagious with whimsy
No frailty, fragility
Agile in mobility, she sweeps round the stage
In a maze of membranophones
Striking toys
Clay pots
An ancient alchemist’s list
Bells, blocks and bars persist
Percussionist’s twisting
Diaphanous rattling, opaque
Boiling blend in an upside down kettle
Metal, plastic
Rubber elastic
This fusion of tone and atonal
Her cyclic then random strokes
Inflection well hidden within her direction
Earth sounds, gong and timpani
The Masterpiece flirts
With cacophony
*****
Never saw her performing - but this allows me to imagine it.
Your poetic flow is unstoppable, I thought you said you were busy on your projects?
Yes, can't fault it. Aren't words great! I agree with Jeffle - you don't use words to impress, you use them to create a beautiful mellifluous flow. The alliteration and the internal rhyming create a harmony which is almost musical. (That sounds really pompous - but, I don't know how else to describe this). If she were to read it she would recognise what she was playing at the time!
