Why do the snares on my supraphonic snare drum keep loosening?

I have a late 60's ludwig LM 400 supraphonic. I don't have much experience changing the actual wires so I did it for the first time recently. So, once i was finished I flipped the throwoff and started playing. It sounded good but after about 10 minutes I noticed the sound started to change. So I took off my headphones and realized the wires had loosened almost completely. I tightened the snares and the same thing happened. I checked the cord I used to attach them and it seemed to be knotted and tightened and looked normal. The but plate was on securely and Im pretty sure it wasn't loosening from there. I checked where I attached the cord to the throwoff and it seemed to be okay. I read somewhere that this could be a result from the actual throwoff loosening. Since the throwoff is the original p83 could this be loosening? And would a new one help? I used tama 20 strand snappy snares. Could switching to say, puresound snares help due to the higher quality?
Thanks!

New snare strainers will stretch a bit but not a lot. Sounds to me like the string was stretching out (cord) most snares employ a clear tape to secure it to the throw off and the plate. It is made of a very strong material that does not stretch. It is possible that the throw off is getting old and not holding tension as it used too. Take it to a local drum shop and see if they can help
