What all is needed for drum set? music?
My son has played drums for 2 years. He is in Jazz band and regular band at school. He really likes it so I know he will stick to it. But he keeps saying he needs more stuff. He has a regular set and I just bought a double base pedal. He got ride Symbol at Christmas. Now he wants a crash cymbal. What is necessary vs. wants at this time? It seems endless. Plus we don't have the room.

way to support him! as for the "necessary" parts of a set, i would consider:
-3 toms
-1 bass drum
-1 snare
-1 crash cymbal
-1 ride cymbal
-1 hihat cymbal
-hardware for all of those things
this is what i usually play on. i have a lot more, but this is my minimal kit. everything else is more "want" than "need", including the double bass pedal, which i think is really nice. at this point, id say wait till his bday or xmas before getting him anything else.
