Anyone ever use any larger Paiste rides as a crash cymbal?
I recently cracked my 20" Sabian Vault. I loved the way it sounded but I don't intend to buy another Sabian (cracked the DAY of the 2 year warranty mark!). My question is: because I really like crash cymbals with a large and long sustain, I've heard the Giant Beat series may be thin enough even at a 24" ....or maybe a 2002...please let me know if you have these cymbals or if you have any info you wouldn't mind sharing with me!
Well I have a 20 Inch HHX ride and I've tried to use it like a crash before, but the cymbal was to big and sounded hollow to me. I think you should check out the AA thin series, they sound perfect for your situation cause you can really ride them out. Go to Sabian's website and sign up. Once you have a profile, do that set builder thing and you can select cymbals and listen to them by clicking on them. They sound pretty accurate too. I think it's a very useful tool, hell I even used it to sonically match my cymbals. Never walked in a store, but yeah, I think a 20" AA thin would sound amazing, I want me a AA now, lol. You really can't beat Sabian.
