I've had the same clothes for 10 years what do I wear to a reunion?
I have limited dress clothes because I rarely need them.Two suits with blazer/skirt,one black ,one navy blue and 1 pair black pumps. I need a good look for a 30 year class reunion. I am 5'1",128lbs coke bottle shape,large top small bottom,brunette,no gray hair yet but long and straight since high school.Help! I have no idea what to wear.It's been years since I have bought new clothes.I'm lost! The invite says dressy casual, now what does that mean?
Dressy casual means not jeans but not a suit. It means nice slacks or a casual skirt with a cute top. If I were you, I'd update the hair... long and straight is too dated for your age. For the clothes, I'd go for something basic, like a long black skirt or slacks plus a colorful top... something that looks good with your eyes or skin. Rather than a jacket, I like to use shawls because they're a lot more casual and they are different.
For jewelry, I like to do something young. This is where you can go creative without looking like you're trying to be 16 again. I like a modern necklace and earrings set, not pearls or a pendant on a chain. See what's being sold at the costume jewelry counters and pick something unusual. You might even try dangly earrings. Pick a fun style.
For shoes, go with cute sandals with a two-inch heel. Make sure you get a pedicure, and don't wear stockings with sandals.
Since you're busty, you can go with a v-neck as long as it isn't showing too much cleavage. The object is to be sexy without looking like a hooker. And the rule is to wear either a sexy top or a short sexy skirt... but not both. When I wear my leather mini-skirt, I generally pair it with opaque hose and a turtleneck. Conversely, when I wear a v-neck top with cleavage showing, I'll pick a long skirt or slacks.
If your budget is tight, shop at the discount stores. I don't know where you live, but Target, TJ Maxx, Ross and similar stores have great stuff at reduced prices. But you have to look through the racks. For shoes, go to Payless. You can find cute shoes for about $15. Same with the cute purses.
If you're really limited, go with a very basic outfit... black slacks and a black fitted t-shirt, for example, with some unusual accessories... like that shawl and a chunky necklace of fake turquoise stones.
I like black clothes for several reasons... They make you look thinner, they look like you paid more than you did, they're always in style, it's an elegant color, it pairs with many other colors to change the look, and it hides all those little bulges that are usually visible with lighter colors.
