I play guitar, how hard would it be to learn the electric violin?

I'm 19 and have been playing guitar for about 5 years (I also play bass guitar and a little piano). I was surfing the internet yesterday and came across electric/silent violins for some reason and became really interested in it because I love violin music and have always wanted to play rock songs on violin (kind of like Vitamin String Quartet does). I love the idea that I could plug headphones into a battery-powered electric violin and practice anywhere, anytime. How long can I expect to take to become competent on violin?

Really really hard buddy. I play and it is still freakin hard. hah. If you really REALLY like it then go ahead and try it. Ive been playing since i was 4 and it was not easy. You have to have a good ear to be able to tolerate the time it takes to learn the basics. Good ear (which im assuming you have considering the fact you play guitar and piano) because if you are not on the exact spot where your finger placement should be it will sound horrible. Make that 5x louder on the electric violin. If you are still considering this then it will take time and practice practice practice in order to accomplish with the violin. In the end if you keep up with it... it WILL sound amazing.
