removing the plug from my winchester 1200.?
recently inherited a gun from my father. i don't know to much about it, but he wanted me to have it and i think i might use it for clay shooting. i am reasonably certain it is a winchester 1200, though the lack of a serial number means i am not positive. anyways, found out there was supposed to be a 5 shot mag, could only load 2 so there had to be a plug. opened up the barrel and found what was probably it, the broken pieces of what looked like a number 2 pencil pulled it out of the spring, my question is, with it was a metal piece i don't recognize, its about an inch long, bullet shaped. i cant figure out if it was supposed to secure the spring or part of the lug, not sure what i need to do with it.
This is probably meant to keep the spring in when you are removing the barrel. It should fit snugly into the top of the magazine tube and stay in when you take the cap off. It also may be the part that goes on the end of the spring that shells push against when you load them.
