I need help with a Drum Shell Question?
So on my old shells I noticed that the black plastic wrapping that surrounds the shell is starting to peel off in spots. Now would it be ok to just peel it off completely and just have a wooden looking drum or would it damage them someway?
If it is real wood then it won't hurt anything at all. If they are decent drums it will be real solid plies of wood. Removing the wrapping will actually improve the sound of the drums since the vinyl dampens the sound of the wood. If it is a cheap plywood kit then removing the vinyl could lead to warping but I kind of doubt it. Never owned anything with plywood shells so can't say for sure.
