What would be a good example of an instructional sequence for a 7th grade band class?
I am working on my national board certification, and I'm needing some help on instructional sequence. I want to video my 7th grade brass class working on their ensemble piece for festival. The piece we're working on is called Processional and it's a traditional German Hymn. This is for Entry 2, Delivering Instruction. A good example would be appreciated!
This is an old lesson design by Madeline Hunter, but is still valid.
1. objectives - tell the students what they will learn
2. standards - tell them why it is important to know the skill
3. anticipatory set - gets their attention (question, visual, funny short story)
4. teaching
* input - tell them how to do it
* modeling - show them how to do it
* check for understanding - ask questions
5. guided practice/monitoring - students practice with teacher's help and observation
6. closure - summary or repetition of what they learned and why it's important
7. independent practice - homework, etc. outside of class
