How or should I clean my rainsticks?
I have two rainsticks that are twenty years old. One is 32 inches tall, 6 inches in circumference and is made from cactus. Through-out the aging it has a beautiful patina. The second one is 30 inches tall 6 inches in circumference and made from bamboo. Unfortunately the one made of bamboo was stained dark oak by the maker (I suppose) I hate the stain and want to strip it off but how, and should I? My favorite one (the cactus) I just want or wonder if I should clean it and if so, how? or should I just oil it with something to preserve it. Both are used mostly for decoration and sometime just to hear the sound. Is there anyone out here with a rainstick this old? My home can get pretty humid and dry at times. Thanks!
I think that bamboo is so porous that it will not strip well. Try using a natural stripper like that orange one if you want to possibly lighten it up but don't be surprised if the results aren't uniform.
